Emmanuel College
Department of Social Science
The Department of Social Science at Emmanuel College offers preparation for careers in geography, political science, sociology, social work, counseling, psychology, pre-law, history, criminal justice and education. All classes offer instruction from many different models and come from a Christ-centered worldview. While some classes include lectures, students also learn via directed studies, observations, projects, laboratory instruction, discussion-centered instruction and seminars. The faculty aims to prepare Christ-like disciples who will integrate their own living, learning and faith into effective services and careers.
Criminal Justice
The Criminal Justice program prepares students to enter the complex field of juvenile justice, probation/parole, corrections and law enforcement. The degree takes both a practical and academic approach, and students pursue the substantive investigation of criminal justice while also participating in internships, labs and other types of practical experiences. The program draws from studies in pre-law, political science, psychology and sociology, and students can choose from either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Sciences in Criminal Justice. Coursework includes social and behavioral science, humanities, communication skills and Christian ministries as well as criminal justice electives and core courses.

Within the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Fort Valley State University are 10 separate departments, including a Political Science and Criminal Justice department. Fort Valley State University offers an online Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice to students seeking a career in the criminal justice industry. The degree program provides knowledge of the procedures and principles of the criminal justice system and strives to build a strong foundational knowledge of the basics of the field. The program is structured around the three components of the criminal justice system: corrections, courts and law enforcement. Students are able to complete online classes at their own pace from a distance, making this online degree a smart choice for students who already hold employment and who wish to further their career without removing themselves from their current positions.

Department of Government and Sociology
The Department of Government and Sociology at Georgia College and State University offers everything from in-depth courses on public service systems and constitutionalism to graduate degrees in criminal justice and public administration. Students have endless opportunities to learn from talented, dedicated faculty, and the Department seeks to cultivate a sense of curiosity and independence in its students. This ultimately leads to internships, public service projects and undergraduate research. Criminal Justice B.A.
The Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Georgia College and State University encompasses 42 semester hours, including 27 semester hours in criminology, research and analytic methods of criminal justice, criminal law and procedure, correctional systems and practice and police systems and practice. Students are also required to successfully complete a senior capstone experience. The program is designed for individuals who are interested in careers in teaching, law, foreign service, criminal justice law enforcement and administration, government policy making and government administration. The bachelor’s degree will also prepare students who wish to further their education via a graduate degree in law, urban planning, public policy, public administration, political science and criminal justice.

The School of Liberal Arts (SLA) at Georgia Gwinnett College offers courses that span a diversity of interests ranging from English literature and world history to neuroscience and cognition. Bachelor of Science: Criminal Justice/Criminology
The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice/Criminology includes 60 hours of general education courses and three hours of physical education. In addition, students must complete 60 hours of required criminal justice/criminology courses such as criminal procedure, statistics for the social sciences, corrections, American police systems, criminology, research methods and American courts and legal systems. Students will also further develop their knowledge of the field via 21 hours of criminal justice electives, ranging from victimology, criminal violence and crime prevention to gangs, juvenile delinquency and organized crimes. Upon completion of the program, graduates are prepared for graduate school or professions such as probations, policing, parole, law and corrections.

The Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies at Georgia Southern University requires students to complete 126 semester credit hours, including 63 hours of credit specific to the degree program and 63 hours of general academic requirements. Major course requirements include corrections, justice studies research methods, criminal behavior, policing and the judicial process. Students must also choose five electives such as victimology, gangs and society, juvenile justice, investigations, criminal procedure and criminal law. The B.S. in Justice Studies provides students with a foundational background in science that will allow them to develop the social and cognitive skills necessary to allow for better adaption to a constantly changing professional and social environment.

The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice offers majors in criminal justice and sociology, including a 100%-online sociology degree program.
