5 Conferences About Crime in 2017

Lawyers and paralegals aren’t the only ones who attend the top conferences about crime. The conferences taking place in 2017 will also welcome politicians, teachers, writers, reporters and others who have an interest in crime. Some of the conferences that you can attend with address topics like caring for the victims of crimes, strengthening the laws against certain types of crimes and even the importance of staying safe.

California Crime Writers Conference

Those who write about true crime cases and authors of fictional crime books will head to Los Angeles June 10-11 for the annual California Crime Writers Conference. Hallie Ephron, who was a finalist for the Mary Higgins Clark Award in 2016, will be the guest of honor. William Kent Krueger, who appeared on the New York Times bestseller list several times, will also be in attendance. This conference includes a number of workshops that teach guests how to craft their stories, use practical and realistic information in their stories and how to best market books to readers.

Crimes Against Children Conference

The Dallas Police Department and Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center come together every year to host the Crimes Against Children Conference. Scheduled for August 7-10, the 2017 conference will take place at the Dallas Sheraton Hotel. The conference founders encourage speakers to present case studies, which help you learn about actual crimes against children and what law enforcement did to keep those kids safe. It also includes guest lecturers and workshops. These workshops can help you identify the signs of abuse in children and what to do in your own job to protect kids.

ACFCS Financial Crime Conference

The ACFCS Financial Crime Conference actually consists of two different conferences. The first occurs in the beginning of June at the Yale Club of New York City. The group will host a digital conference one week later that you can attend online. The Association of Certified Financial Crime Specialists (ACFCS) is a professional organization that offers certification to financial specialists. This conference brings together accountants and other financial professionals to talk about issues relating to cyber crimes and cybersecurity. Many of the workshops and group sessions let those professionals talk about ways to prevent cyber crimes.

International Association of Crime Analysts Training Conference

Members of the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA) are the professional responsible for analyzing crime scenes and finding evidence that proves the guilt of a suspect. The IACA will host its annual training conference September 11-15 in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. According to its official website, the 2016 conference brought in nearly 400 guests and included more than 60 training sessions. Those sessions teach guests how to analyze visible evidence and evidence that you cannot see with the naked eye.

Conference on Crime Against Women

One of the top conferences about crime scheduled for 2017 is the Conference on Crime Against Women. The 2017 conference marks the 12th anniversary of the event and will take place at the Sheraton Hotel in Dallas May 22-25. It will include case studies presented by lawyers and other legal professionals as well as training workshops. Some of the guest speakers who will participate plan to discuss the issue of rapes and kidnaps on college campuses, the rise in domestic violence against women, prosecuting sexual abusers and how to best serve under represented populations and communities.
